A tutorial for making your pooch pango-rific!
Materials Needed:
- Cardboard
- Hot glue gun + glue
- Scissors
- 1 old dog sweater or shirt
- Elastic banding (find it at a local craft or fabric store)
- 1 patient canine
Let’s pangolin-ize your pooch!
- Cut several dozen pangolin scales from cardboard. Triangle shapes seem to be pretty easy, but you can use whichever shape you would like. It also helps to cut them into varying sizes. To be more environmentally-friendly, use cardboard from your recycling!
-
Using the old dog shirt or sweater as sort of a scaffolding for this project, you will begin using a hot glue gun to adhere the scales, starting from the posterior-most portion in the center of top side of the sweater or shirt. To make the scales over lap, you will work from the center-outward, and from the back (tail-end) forward toward the head.
Note: Be sure to do this WITHOUT your dog in the sweater! - Cover the tops and sides of the sweater with scales and you can stop there. Or if you’re feeling ambitious, you can cut some material to fit your dog’s head and make a head piece that is covered in scales. You can use elastic banding that wraps around their chin or throat to keep the head piece on your dog.
- You can also use elastic banding around the waist, chest, or both, to keep the bodice of the costume on your canine friend.
This is a costume you can use for Halloween, a costume contest, a special doggy event, or just for fun! Get creative, have fun, and don’t forget to take photos!
